Power bi - dashboards and reports overview

An overview on Power BI, Power BI dashboards and Power BI reports.

power bi

What is Power BI? Power BI is a business analytics service by Microsoft. It aims to provide interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities.
How do I access Power BI? You can go to app.powerbi.com or there is an option to Open in Power BI from within the dashboard.
How are Power BI dashboards different than my other akoyaGO Dashboards? Power BI dashboards display dynamic, responsive data that you can interact with directly. They emphasize visualization which allows you to see your data in more meaningful ways.

Power BI Dashboards

Power BI dashboards can be found in your System Dashboards view in the Dashboards entity. Power BI dashboards will be denoted by a different icon than other akoyaGO dashboards.

Power BI Dashboards are unique in that they are interactive and dynamic; you can isolate certain data points so you can see exactly what you want to see and mute the things you don’t. You’ll see an example below in the Grant Stats by Program Dashboard break down.
As part of the November 11, 2021 release, we’ve created two Power BI dashboards and corresponding reports. We’ll look at each dashboard and break down what each one displays.

Grant stats by program

The Grant Stats by Program Dashboard displays data from the All Approved Requests view. To see the raw data of this view, click the link in the top right corner of the dashboard.

Here’s an idea of what you’ll see in the Grant Stats by Program Dashboard:

Hover your mouse over any data point to get more information or click on any data point to isolate that information. For example, to isolate the scholarship giving data click on the amount displayed in the chart.

This brings the scholarship giving to the forefront and the numbers in the Total Grant Amount Awarded and Total Number of Grants Awarded columns change accordingly.

Select ‘Click To See Raw View’ to see the View that the Power BI Dashboard data was pulled from. The Grant Stats by Program Dashboard looks at a view called All Approved Requests, for example.

power bi reports

These two new dashboards have corresponding reports that can be accessed from Power BI. The reports look identical to the dashboards, but you can manipulate the data, and print, or export. Find your reports by clicking Open in Power BI from within the dashboard or go to app.powerbi.com. To find your Power BI reports, select Workspaces from the left-hand toolbar and choose akoyaGO.

The akoyaGO workspace will appear under Workspaces in the toolbar; click on the arrow to the right of it to expand it and your reports will be listed in the Reports section.

Click on a report to open it and choose how you would like to export it from the top menu. Options include exporting to a PDF, to excel, or even sending to a colleague in Teams. Please keep in mind that to send it to or share it with a colleague, that person must have been given prior access to open the dashboard or report. To learn about how to grant access to Power BI Reports, see here.

Use the Edit function to manipulate the data before printing or exporting, for example.
