Creating a Spouse Connection

This Knowledge Article explains how to create and manage a spouse connection in akoyaGO, ensuring related contact records are accurately linked. To make a spouse connection between two individuals, both need a Contact record. For more information, please see Entering Contacts KA.

  Create the Connection

Navigate to either Contact record within the couple; you may begin from either individual's Contact record.

Click on the Family/Connections tab, and in the Family Connections subgrid, click +New Connection.

Search for the name of the spouse (in this case, Barry's spouse, Patricia) and choose Spouse/Partner as the Role. You only need to fill in the top "As this role" field, and the reciprocal "As this role" will populate.

Fill in a start date or end date if necessary, i.e., in the case of a marriage/divorce/death. Click save.

Because a reciprocal connection was created, you will see the connection from both Contact records:

You can also view Connections in a View directly from the Connections table. Connections can be accessed from the Donor Management or Fund Management areas of akoyaGO.

If you would like to only view "Spouse/Partner" connections, sort or filter the Role column as needed, or reference the Spouse/Partner Connections System View

  Address Change

If an address is updated on a Contact record with a spouse connection, the system will prompt you to update the spouse's address. In the example above, if you changed Barry’s address, it would prompt you to update Patricia's address.

Please note this functionality only occurs when both Contacts have a connection; if you have removed the reciprocal connection (meaning both Contacts do not have "Spouse/Partner" set As this role, this will not occur.
