GOfund Charts (Data Visualization)

Prerequisites

1.      GOfund Admin

2.      System Customizer to create/edit Dynamics 365 charts

GOfund charts are a data visualization tool that displays meaningful information to GOfund users in a simple, easy-to-understand digest format.

Things to know:

GOfund charts utilize Dynamics 365 charts. These are created and stored in PowerApps. You will have several out-of-the-box charts to utilize, and you can also create custom charts if desired.

For more information on creating and editing Dynamics 365 Charts, please review the Microsoft documentation Create a System Chart in Dynamics 365 or Create and Edit Charts in Dynamics 365.

GOfund Charts Tools Workspace

In the Tools workspace, under the Fund Management header, there is a table called GOfund Charts. This is where you will create the CRM chart records which will look to the Dynamics 365 charts.

If you are utilizing the out-of-the-box charts or have already created or edited your custom charts, follow the steps below to enable GOfund charts.

Step 1: Add a new chart

From the GOfund Charts table, click +New to add a new record.

Step 2: Fill in the form.

  • Chart Name: This is the name that will display above the chart in GOfund. This is a fundholder-facing field.
  • Owner: This field will populate with the user who created the record. This is not a fundholder-facing field.
  • Display Order: Input a whole number. Charts are displayed from left to right in two columns on the page. For example, the number 1 will display the chart on the top left, 2 on the top right, 3 on the lower left, and 4 on the lower right.
  • Chart Type: Chart of Number Card. The chart will display the data in a column, bar, area, line, or pie chart. A number card will display a numerical count of a data point. Depending on which option you choose, you may have additional fields to fill out on the form.
    • Chart
      • Regarding To: select the table from which the data will be pulled. Out of the box, the tables include Request, Payment or Requirement, Gift, and Gift Payment
      • Select a Chart: Select from the list of out-of-the-box and custom charts. Once selected, this field will clear, and the field below, Chart Name, will populate.
    • Number Card
      • Regarding To: see above for description.
      • Select a View: choose from the list of system views. Choose a view that contains the data point you want to capture as a column. Once selected, this field will clear, and the field below, View Name, will populate.
      • Select a Column: Select the column from the view that contains the data point you want to capture. Once selected, this field will clear, and the field below, Column Name, will populate.
      • Data Aggregation Type: select how you want the number calculated.
  • GOfund Settings ID: choose your organization's GOfund Settings record. The chart cannot be displayed in GOfund without this.
  • Publish to GOfund: If you are ready to publish this chart to GOfund, toggle to Yes. We recommend you preview the chart before publishing to GOfund.

Step 3: Preview the chart

Navigate to the Preview tab to make sure you are happy with how this chart looks before you publish it to GOfund. You can filter by fund and date range. Click Update to see your filters applied.

Previewing your charts is especially important in the case that errors arise due to blank fields in the Chart record. You will not be alerted to chart errors in any other place than the Preview screen or in the GOfund site, at which point, your fundholders may have also encountered the error.

In the example below, a chart was published to GOfund without the view selected, as it is not a required field (because it is conditional). This error is displayed in the Preview and in GOfund.

GOfund Settings

To enable charts, navigate to the Tools workspace > GOfund Settings > Charts tab.

In the charts tab you will find a subgrid of the charts records that you created in the previous steps.

Enable charts:

Toggle the Enable Charts setting to On to display charts in GOfund. Note that in order for your charts to be displayed, this setting must be on, in addition to the Publish to GOfund setting, in the Chart record.

Customization for Charts Label:

To customize the language that GOfund users see in their menu, input alternate text here. Suggestions include Data Insights or Data Visualization.

Viewing Charts in GOfund

Charts can be viewed on a fund-by-fund basis, or they can aggregate data from multiple funds. Chart data can also be filtered by date.

To see multiple funds' data, select multiple funds from the Fund Name drop-down.

Date filters will default to the current year to date.

To see filters applied, click Apply Filter.

To clear all filters, click Reset.

If no funds are selected, the charts will display data from all funds to which the user has a connection.
