Third-Party Matching Gifts

Prerequisites

Please note this Knowledge Article is specifically walking you through the Third-Party Matching Gift process, which is different from the Foundation Matching Gifts process.

Third-Party Matching Gifts refer to gifts that are given and matched by another donor (such as an employer). You can create a Matching Gift record and link the two gift records together using the Third Party Matching Gifts field on the Gift form.

Foundation Matching Gifts refer to gifts that are matched by the foundation, typically because they meet certain criteria set by the foundation. For more information on Foundation Matching Gifts, see this related Knowledge Article: Foundation Matching Gifts.

  Third-Party Matching Gift Fields

The following fields can be found on a Gift record, in the Third-Party Matching Gifts section found in the bottom corner of the General tab:

Automation Around Third-Party Matching Gifts Fields

When a Third-Party Matching Donor and Third-Party Match Amount are listed on a gift, a related Gift will be automatically created for the Third-Party Match Amount listed. This Gift will be set in the "Third-Party Matching Gift" field on the original gift, linking the two gifts together so it is clear how the match came to be. You do not need to manually create the Matching Gift; a workflow will trigger when the Matching Donor and Match Amount are listed.
